The Many Ways Mississippi Supports Brilliance

This fall, we visited the Sunflower River Gospel and Blues Festival in Clarksdale to hear how our partners support student brilliance. Turns out there are all kinds of ways to shine light on the brilliance in our state!

People the world over know that the Mississippi Delta is filled with brilliant music—blues and gospel especially. And people come from all over the world to hear it.

Last month, on August 13, the Sunflower River Gospel and Blues Festival was held in downtown Clarksdale, Mississippi, bringing together music fans local and from afar. Teach For America-Mississippi was at the event, too, celebrating another form of local brilliance: the brilliance of our students.

We invited festival attendees to stop by our booth for a refreshment and conversation about our students in Mississippi. We believe that—though our education system may need some changes still—our students have a brilliance that simply shines. And it turns out many of our friends in Clarkdsale agreed!

We asked attendees to jot down how they support student brilliance in Mississippi. Below you can see just a few of the things we heard!

Helping every student recognize their incredible worth, potential, and talent!
Supporting public libraries.
Love and celebration every day!
